Hack the Map: imaginary worlds
STUDENT DIGITAL WORKS COMPETITION
Using travel maps and imaginary representations of Greece from the 16th to the 20th century, school teams are invited to create original digital projects.

The contribution of the G.A.K.
In order to support the competing school groups in the implementation of their projects, the General State Archives and the I.A.M. – Cartographic Heritage Archive have created supporting material that has been posted on the digital platform (classroom) of the Onassis Foundation and includes videos, presentations, notes and digital scenarios.
Contestants can obtain additional cartographic and other material from the digital cultural collection of the General Archives of the State “Archivists” or contact the Department of the General Archives of their region. The Digital Map Library of the Cartographic Heritage Archive is not available online, but it is possible to contact the AHAK in order to give anyone who wishes access to maps of Thessaloniki and other cities and regions of Greece and the world.

The online presentation of the competition took place on Saturday 18 December 2021.

Wikipedia Challenge: BECOME A MODERN ENCYCLOPEDIST
A STUDENT COLLABORATIVE WRITING COMPETITION ON WIKIPEDIA
School teams from all over Greece and abroad are invited to study archival documents and enrich the topic “Greek Revolution of 1821” in the Greek Wikipedia by writing new articles and/or translating existing ones.

The contribution of the G.A.Κ.
The General State Archives and in particular the Department of Reading and Archival Research of the Central Service, undertook the creation of the supporting material that the contestants will need in the task of glossary compilation. The team of archivists, who worked for this purpose, proceeded, after research and study of the archival material held at the GAC, to compile a list of new entries related to the Greek Revolution that are not included in the Greek Wikipedia, accompanying each entry with a sufficient number of digital archival documents and the corresponding bibliography.
The catalogue and the accompanying supporting material will be accessed through an easy-to-use and attractive online tool (padlet) that our service has developed in order to facilitate the school teams in their work.

On Tuesday 9 November 2021, the partner organisations held an event, which was conducted online, to present the competition to the school community and the general public.
