The subject of historical memory, how it shapes and is shaped by our relationship with the present is particularly relevant in recent times.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the revolution of 1821, the ARS group (Grigoriadi Maria, Kamenou Vicky, Koukoulaki Stella and Pagomenos Kostas) holds an exhibition titled 1821, If 18 was 20 at the Municipal Gallery of Heraklion, co-organized by the Region of Crete and Municipality of Heraklion.
The subject of historical memory, how it shapes and is shaped by our relationship with the present is particularly relevant in recent times, as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution. The meaning of history is of primary importance for becoming aware of our past and future place in the world. This demand for meaning haunts the four artists, who live and work in Heraklion and exhibit together for 1821, about how the dilemmas and stakes of that time, would be seen and translated in today’s Greece.
Exhibition duration: 3 to 13 August 2021
