In the framework of the celebrations for the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, the Byzantine and Christian Museum hosted an anniversary event co-organised by the Municipality of Thebes and dedicated to the painter Theodoros P. Vryzakis. A bust sculpture of the painter was presented as well, created by the sculptor Dimitris Dimou.
The event was attended by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronymos, the Metropolitan of Thebes and Levadia, Mr. Georgios, the President of the “Greece 2021” Committee, Mr. Gianna Angelopoulou Daskalaki, and political leadership representatives.
The event is accompanied by a periodic exhibition titled Theodoros Vryzakis and the image of Greece through the eyes of artists, with works from the philhellenic Collection of Michalis and Dimitra Varkarakis and the collection of Evangelos and Katigo Angelakou. Two of the paintings in the exhibition are by Theodoros P. Vryzakis, while the rest cover philhellenic themes by 19th-century artists.
The exhibition is curated by the art historian, Dr. Marai Georgousi
