An event of great historical significance that inspires historical explorations, emotions and admiration, thus contributing to the consolidation of the collective historical memory.

Another exhibition is hosted in the Exhibition space of the Basilica of Saint Mark, organized by the Municipality of Heraklion and the Vikelaia Library.

The exhibition focuses on three of the critical historical periods that marked the 19th century. These are the Revolutionary periods of 1821, 1866 and 1897. The vision and purpose of the revolutionaries was, on the one hand, to gain their freedom from the Ottoman rule, and to achieve the Union of Crete with Greece on the other.

In the paths of the Revolution depicted in the space of the Basilica of Saint Mark, visitors will become familiar with images, texts, sacred relics and other historical evidence of the island’s participation in the struggle for national uprising.
