The events organized by the Municipality of Patras and the Cultural Organization in celebration of the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution of 1821, continue on Friday, October 15, at the conference hall of “Argyri Market“, with the conference titled “The impact of the revolution of 1821 in Society, Art and Culture“,

At the end of the day, there will be a concert with works by Mozart, Shostakovich and Skalkotas by the string quintet of the Municipal Conservatory.

The Greek revolution of ’21 will come to life through the figures of Karagiozis, on Saturday, October 16 at 19.00, at the “Argyri Market” (12 Agiou Andreou), in a shadow theater performance.

The play is produced by the “Black Theater of Patras” with figures created by the artist Kostas Makris and is entitled “Captain Stratos – The recognition of the two brothers” and will be accompanied by live music.

It is presented in the framework of the art exhibition “Pros Episkevin Olomeleias’ (“For Plenary Repair”) – A Different Approach to the Greek Revolution by Contemporary Artists“, hosted at the “Argyri” Market and the Municipal Gallery.

The art exhibition “Pros Episkevin Olomeleias’ (“For Plenary Repair”) – A Different Approach to the Greek Revolution by Contemporary Artists“, co-organized by the Cultural Organization of the Municipality of Patras and the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE) was presented during a press conference given by the President of the Cultural Organization Katerina Geropanagioti, the Mayor of Patras Kostas Peletidis, the President of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece Eva Mela, and the sculptor, member of EETE, Antonis Myrodias.

The exhibition is hosted both at the “Argyri” Market and the Municipal Gallery, starting Monday 10 September and for one month. It began with an open invitation to all members of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece, and the competent committee selected 115 artists with 148 works with various aesthetic and ideological perspectives.

The sculptor Antonis Myrodias stated, among other things, that “the exhibition is a rather daring undertaking; the subject was nothing but easy for the artists. In anniversary periods such as the year 2012, we reflect and try we try to make sense of the narrative of the Revolution, as it has been created until today. The problem is that the artists of the 19th century gave the perspective of an era in which everything revolved around the creation of nation-states and the shaping of history. For us, the question was where are the ordinary people in this narrative -the masses that always go unnoticed in our history?”
