A musical work with poems set to music by Christos Leontis, and texts by Rigas, Solomos and Makrygiannis.

The events organized by the Cultural Organization of the Municipality of Patras to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 continue with a concert titled Cantata of Freedom at 9.30 pm on Saturday 4 September, presenting works by the great Greek composer Christos Leontis with themes related to the revolution.

Cantata of Freedom is a musical work consisting of poems set to music by Christos Leontis, as well as texts by Rigas, Solomos and Makrigiannis. It was written in 1970 and recorded with the voice of the composer himself, with Anna Synodinou reading the texts, and was originally released on a small vinyl record.

Apart from the Cantata of Freedom, the program includes other songs by Christos Leontis.

The concert is co-organized by the Regional Unit of Municipalities of Western Greece and will take place in the outdoor space of the Art Factory “Thanos Mikroutsikos“. The songs will be performed by Miltos Paschalidis, Kostas Triantaphyllidis, Ioanna Forti and texts will be read by Konstantinos Konstantopoulos and Ourania Basli.

Musicians: Manos Avarakis – Accordion, Manolis Androulidakis – Lute – Acoustic guitar, Vangelis Zarboutis – Bouzouki, Teo Lazarou – Bass, Neoklis Neophitidis – Piano, Antonis Papaggelis – Vassilis Rapsaniotis – Violin.

The Mixed Choir of the Municipality of Kifissia also participates.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the Box office of the Municipal Theatre every day (Sunday closed) from 11.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. and on the website of the Cultural Organization www.patrasculture.gr and the bookstore “Rodopoulos”.
