The opening of the exhibition REVOLUTION ‘21REFRAMED at the National History Museum also marked the beginning of its anniversary program celebrating the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution. The program is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the exhibition will travel to 12 cities in Greece. A ‘floating’ exhibition is also included, which is going to visit several Aegean islands.

The exhibition attempts to take us back to the age of the Revolution through documents, artifacts and archives of the Museum. The narrative begins with the Modern Greek Enlightenment and the ideological origins of the Revolution and moves on to the historical developments that led to its outbreak and later consolidation. The daily life of the fighters and the civilian population is presented, as well as the growth and contribution of the philhellenic movement. The political developments, the attempts to establish democratic institutions and the diplomatic developments that led to the international recognition of the Revolution are analyzed. Lastly, the consequences and repercussions of the Revolution are examined, along with the efforts to establish a modern state and form a national consciousness.
