Can a dream change the world? Motivated by an appeal for help with a dream, the Apostle Paul began his second tour, which was to influence world history by marking the beginning of the end of the ancient world. The exhibition “In the Footsteps of Apostle Paul“, presented by the Ministry of Culture, the Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, traces its course from Macedonia to Corinth. The exhibition was designed by the Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture and implemented in the framework of the project “Cultural Route: On the Steps of Apostle Paul” with funds managed by the Ministry of Culture from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.

The museum narrative of the exhibition was structured on the basis of Paul’s Second Apostolic Tour in Greece, in a revised framework of documentation and reconstruction, according to the text of the Acts of the Apostles, his letters to the newly founded Christian Churches and his associates, historical and archaeological research, but also the oral tradition that preserved the memory of the Apostle unchanged. The aim is to link the apostolic journey with archaeological sites and monuments of the Greco-Roman era, the Jewish Diaspora and the Christian world in the then stations of the Apostle’s tour and current cities of modern Greece. The exhibition is addressed to the residents and institutions of these areas and has been designed in such a way that there is the possibility to be extended and hosted in any museum or exhibition space that wishes to present it to its audience.

The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is the first stop of the exhibition, which will tour to other cities in Greece that are close to the sites of the Apostolic Tour.

The exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is enriched with objects from its collections, which shed light on aspects of the society of Thessaloniki in the period before and after the passage of the Apostle Paul and reflect the influence of his teaching.

Alongside the exhibition, a museum case will be available to the children’s public, where the Apostolic Tour and the world of Paul come to life through educational games and activities.

Exhibition Opening: Wednesday, 29 January 2025, at 19:00
