Development of educational structures in Megalopolis and the use of the Mavrakio School in Elliniko Arkadia by the Hellenic Open University
On April 28, 2022, a programmatic contract between the Hellenic Open University, the Peloponnese Region and the National Technical University of Athens was signed at the Primary School of Elliniko Gortynia for the development of educational structures in Megalopolis and the utilization of the Mavrakeio School in Elliniko Arkadia by the Hellenic Open University.
The project as well as the development and operation of the EAP Branch in Megalopolis are part of the national strategic objective of strengthening and supporting the productive model of the lignite regions and is a top priority of the Peloponnese Region and one of the most important actions of the Hellenic Open University in the region.
The programme contract has a budget of 520. 000 euros, with the main financial source being that of the Peloponnese Region and the participation of the Hellenic Open University, was signed by the President of the Hellenic Open University, Professor Odysseus – Ioannis Zora, the President of the Peloponnese Region, Panagiotis Nikas and the Vice Rector of the NTUA, Professor Ioannis Hadjigeorgiou and marks the beginning of the procedures for the development of the project, on behalf of the NTUA, the final studies and the tender documents of the overall project for the reconstruction and overall upgrade (energy, architectural and structural) of the property of the Maurakeion School into a Research, Innovation and Learning Centre with emphasis on educational and conference activities.
The President of the Hellenic Open University, Professor Odysseas – Ioannis Zoras, referred to a “development project that will radically and impressively change the wider region” and stressed that it is an extremely important event that almost all of the required funds have been secured from the outset.
He also informed that the EAP is planning important activities in the infrastructure of the Mavrakeion School.
