Temenos Hamidiye Castle of Chios

George Zymarakis (1936- 2023) is an internationally renowned painter who was born in the Castle of Chios.

He studied, worked and created in New York since 1957 Fine and Applied Arts. He worked as a creative designer and art director for major organizations: CBS Books, Scholastic Magazine, American Express, Parade Publications.

In 1987 he settled in Athens where he continued to create. Since 1989, together with his wife, Kalliopi Volaki, he published the Fine Arts magazine “Gallery Guide”. He was a theoretician and art historian, a poet.

In 2000, the American Government honored him with a Grant, organizing an exhibition for him in Athens, under the auspices of the American Embassy, entitled “Homage to New York”.

He is the only Greek painter who has received this distinction. There have been solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, Athens, Chios and he has participated in many group exhibitions.

His works are in private and public collections.
