European Digital Deal—a project co-funded by Creative Europe—launches an open call for 12 artist residencies exploring the deep entanglement between new technologies and democracy.

After the successful completion of the European Artificial Intelligence Lab project, Onassis Stegi along with twelve European cultural organizations join forces for European Digital Deal, a three-year investigation into how the accelerated, but at times unconsidered, adoption of new technologies can alter or undermine democratic processes.

For three years (January 2023–December 2025), thirteen cultural organizations in Europe will form a new kind of public forum that will critically reflect on the implications of new technologies on the social fabric and draft an action plan for how future technological innovation can benefit the many.

Artists are called on to investigate a range of topics, from the notion of truth in the information age shaped by algorithms, biases in AI, techno-anxiety, the digital divides arising as a result of digitalization and ways to counteract them, to new forms of surveillance, intelligence, living, citizenship or work.

All the selected artists will receive a 25,000 EUR grant to complete their project, mentorship through an incubation program, and the chance to show their work at festivals and events organized by the partners of the network.

Artists interested in applying can join us online on 06.11.2023, 3 PM CET, for a short presentation of the open call, followed by Q&A sessions with the residency hosts/consortium partners. Register here
