Christoph Wanner, Professor of Medicine at the University of Würzburg, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, for his rich research, teaching and writing work.

The Degree Ceremony will take place on Thursday 29 February 2024 at 19:00, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Old Building of the Faculty of Philosophy.

Short Curriculum Vitae-Christoph Wanner

Professor Christoph Wanner was born in Bad Mergentheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, in 1957. He studied medicine between 1976 and 1982 at the Universities of Ferrara, Berlin and Würzburg and trained in the specialties of Pathology and Nephrology between 1983 and 1990 at the University Hospital in Freiburg. In 1990 he completed his PhD thesis and started working as an Assistant Professor at the Freiburg Medical School.

Professor Wanner ranks among the world’s leading researchers in the field of Nephrology, as for more than 30 years he has played a central role in important research areas of the specialty, while his research output has had a catalytic effect on the formulation of modern therapeutic strategies for the treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and other diseases.

Professor Wanner is the author of more than 980 papers in reputable international journals, with more than 80,000 citations and h-index=120 in Scopus and more than 180,000 citations and h-index=147 in Google Scholar. During his career he has been an invited speaker at many international and national conferences around the world, has received prestigious international and national awards and has been a visiting professor at major universities. In addition, he has co-authored many guideline texts in the field of Nephrology. Between 2003-2008, he served as Editor-in-chief of Kidney & Blood Pressure Research and between 2011-2019 Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Renal Nutrition, and has served as an Editorial Board member and/or Associate Editor of all leading international journals in the field of Nephrology.
