From inspiration to the stage: Tools and techniques for creating and presenting music performances

How does an idea actually become a fully realized musical theater production? This experiential, credit-bearing program covers the entire process—from the initial concept, through planning and preparation, to the actual staging of the performance in schools, communities, music schools, and performance venues. What do we explore? The role of the educator/facilitator and music as a tool for developing individual and social skills in real-world group settings, with an additional focus on technical preparation and managing unexpected situations and stage fright. The ultimate goal? The design and presentation of the participants’ project. The program is conducted through a blended learning format (in-person and remote sessions) and is aimed at educators (Music, Theater, Elementary/Secondary), community facilitators, students in related fields, music school instructors, and artists with basic musical knowledge.

 Music development and creativity for ages 0-9

Duration: 7 months

How does music contribute to a child’s holistic development from infancy through school age? A program based on evidence-based theory and practice that covers the entire developmental journey. From infancy through preschool and school age, with pedagogical approaches that foster children’s creativity and musical development. The topics are organized into 5 teaching modules and address Music Education by age group (the presentation of music education for infants, preschoolers, and school-age children up to 9 years old) and pedagogical approaches (interdisciplinary and inclusive practices) related to the child’s overall development. The ultimate goal is to acquire tools for providing age-appropriate musical experiences through blended learning (in-person and remote sessions, synchronous and/or asynchronous). It is intended for those involved in education, as well as parents, and anyone interested in providing age-appropriate musical experiences for children.

Music teaching – learning in Special Education

The Laboratories of Music Education and Music, Cognitive Sciences, and Community of the Department of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) are pleased to announce, once again this year, the launch of the credit-bearing continuing education program offered by the NKUA Center for Lifelong Learning and Education, titled “Music Teaching and Learning in Special Education” in November 2026. The program focuses on inclusive music instruction for students with disabilities and/or special educational needs. It is intended for general and special education teachers, music teachers, and instrument instructors at music schools, as well as students, parents, and artists interested in the field. The training program combines contemporary pedagogical approaches with practical and immediately applicable strategies, such as differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, and multisensory approaches. It includes online training and two in-person experiential sessions, with an emphasis on sharing experiences and practical application.

Learning to play Ukulele: Level I

Instructor: Elissavet Perakaki

Duration: 4 months

The “UkuleleSoprano” educational program is designed for anyone who wants to learn to play the ukulele; no prior knowledge of music or music theory is required. The program is based on experiential and informal approaches to music education, emphasizing performance, singing, and improvisation. Participants gradually become familiar with basic rhythms, chords, accompaniment and melody techniques, as well as reading and writing ukulele tablature. Through hands-on practice with well-known songs, students develop the ability to identify the basic parts, rhythm, and chords of a song, to accompany it, and to experiment creatively with different options. An educational program accessible to beginners, where musical knowledge develops naturally through experience, practice, and the joy of musical creation.
