
The Department of Manuscripts and Prints of the National Library of Greece and the Paleography Laboratory of the University of Crete are co-organizing a new series of three academic lectures on the topic
“Cretan Codifiers: Around Michael Apostolis”
Michael Apostolis, a scholar from Constantinople who settled in Venetian-ruled Chandax after the fall of Constantinople, developed multifaceted codicological and philological activities on the island and established a center of philological and codicological tradition through educational initiatives and collaborations with scholars of the time.
The speakers at the three lectures that will shed light on the work of Michael Apostolis’s circle will be Dimitrios Georgakopoulos, Associate Professor in the Department of Philology at the University of Ioannina; Dr. Nikolaos Sarris, Book and Paper Conservator at the Conservation Department of the National Library of Greece, and Dr. Marie Cronier, Researcher at the Center for the Study of the History of Texts (Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes, Section Grecque, IRHT/CNRS) in Paris.
The lectures will take place on April 29, May 13, and May 27, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., and will be held online via the following link:
