The Society of Cretan Historical Studies sadly bids farewell to archaeologist Liana Parlama, who passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Liana Parlama, daughter of Menelaos Parlamas, founding member and long-time president of SCHS, continued the family tradition of contributing to the Society, actively supporting its work. With her donation in 1998, she gave the Menelaos Parlamas house in Piskopiano, Chersonissos, to SCHS, contributing significantly to the expansion of the Menelaos Parlamas Agricultural Museum and the addition of a new wing, which exhibits textiles from the Theano Metaxa-Kanakaki Collections. At the same time, she supported the work of the Historical Museum of Crete, enriching its collections and archives with donations of household items, the library, and the Menelaos Parlamas Archive.

Liana Parlamas served the Archaeological Service with dedication, carrying out important excavation work in many areas of Greece and serving as Head of the Third Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Athens. She played a decisive role in the major rescue excavations associated with the construction of the Athens Metro in the 1990s, directing and coordinating extensive research in key areas of the city, such as Syntagma, Kerameikos, Evangelismos, and Amalias Avenue.
