Monemvasia, the stone ship that carried Malvasia wine throughout the Mediterranean and Europe, is preparing to host the Malvasia Festival Monemvasia for the second time, on October 24–26, 2025.

Following its impressive debut in 2023, the festival returns under the title “In vino veritas,” inviting the public to discover the truths hidden in a glass of wine with centuries of history.

Myth, historical truth, and artistic creation come together in the cobbled streets of Monemvasia Castle to create a three-day event filled with wine tastings, music concerts, and literary and artistic events. Monemvasia invites us to discover the unique character of Malvasia wine and to “travel” to the most characteristic wine-producing regions of the “family” – from Monemvasia, Paros, and Crete to Italy, Spain, Croatia, and Portugal.

The 1st Malvasia Wine Exhibition will introduce the public to winemakers and wines from regions in Greece (Monemvasia, Crete, Paros), Italy (Parma-Piacenza, Crotone Lipari/Sicily), Croatia (Istria), Spain (Sitges), and Portugal (Madeira).

The Malvasia Festival Monemvasia will be honored by the presence of partners from the international Malvasia Myth Network, which was created in Monemvasia in 2023 and continues to expand, as well as leading international wine personalities such as Beth Willard, Igor Luković, Cesar Soler, and Caroline Gilby (Master of Wine, UK), who will conduct the Malvasia wine masterclass.

At the heart of it all lies the cultural heritage of Malvasia and the imminent inclusion of “Malvasia Sun Wine” in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage. A wine that inspired poets, traveled to royal courts, and even today continues to inspire new narratives through its taste.

The soundtrack of the Malvasia Festival Monemvasia 2025 begins with a musical performance by Sakis Papadimitriou, continues with the mystical Nama Dama and the “classic” Theseus Gousas, and culminates with Socrates Sinopoulos and his quartet. Wine-making could not be absent from the program of events: the festival invites us to search, within the fabric of poetic language, for the threads that wine weaves into individual experience and collective life, while literary events and historical walking tours of the castle complete the experience.

From October 24 to 26, a rich artistic program will turn the spotlight on Monemvasia, showcasing it as an international meeting point for culture, gastronomy, and history. Will you be there?
