2023-2024 APPLICATION FOR ADMISSIONS

The Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the School of Positive Sciences of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment of the International University of Greece, in collaboration with the UNESCO University Chair (Con-E-Ect) ” Conservation and Ecotourism of Riparian and Deltaic Ecosystems” announces eighty (80) postgraduate student positions for the academic year 2023-2024 for the Interinstitutional Graduate (MA) Program entitled “Water, Biosphere and Climate Change”

The program is full-time and lasts three (3) semesters. The courses start in October 2023, confer remotely (Friday afternoon and Saturday morning), in accordance with the provisions of Law 4957/2022 (O.G.G. 141, v. A’ 21-7-2022) and lead to the acquisition of a Master’s Degree.

Those interested in the Program “Water, Biosphere and Climate Change” are invited to submit the necessary supporting documents from Thursday, May the 18th until Thursday, August the 31st 2023.

Every year at the end of the spring semester of the Inter-institutional Master’s Program “Water, Biosphere and Climate Change” a Summer School is organized in Nisyros.

The Summer School takes place in the historical building of the Old Primary School in Emporio of Nisyros, which has been granted by the Municipality of Nisyros to the Laboratory of Climatology and Atmospheric Environment of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of NKUA and to the UNESCO Con-E-Ect Chair of the present Interinstitutional Program.

The Summer School which is an institution on the island of Nisyros, brings together scientists from different disciplines of Physics, Geology, Forestry, Ecology, Natural Environment, Meteorology and Climatology, who will carry out a variety of lectures and field exercises on the island of Nisyros which is considered a natural science laboratory.

In the context of the educational activities of the Nisyros Geopark, the postgraduate students who participate in the Summer School, complete the theoretical course and carry out field work, such as laboratory exercises, concerning micro-bioclimatic measurements in various locations in Nisyros, dendrochronologies to reconstruct the climate of Nisyros the previous 200 years, measurements of air quality and environmental measurements at the volcano of Nisyros and chronological geological evolution of the active volcano of Nisyros.
