Description
The Postgraduate Studies Program (LLM) “Postgraduate Degree in International Studies”, which is developed by the Department of Law of the Law School of the Democritus University of Thrace, was created to cover exclusively specific issues related to a) the protection of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and b) Private International Law, International Transactions and International Arbitration. The above subjects have acquired particular importance in recent years. However, their independent and combined teaching is missing from the undergraduate level and for this reason it was deemed important to create this postgraduate study program.

The Department of Law of the Law School of the Democritus University of Thrace has traditionally specialized in International Studies and has gained the necessary credibility from the organization, for almost twenty years of postgraduate studies that meet modern academic requirements.
The Department of International Studies is staffed by notable and internationally recognized academic staff, with extensive work in the fields of the Master of Laws, operates two research laboratories, and was honored by the European Commission with the Jean Monnet Chair and supports the participation of student groups in international competitions in which they have won important awards.
The Master of Laws (LLM) of the School of Law aims to deepen and advance knowledge, as well as to promote research in the field of Public International Law and Private International Law, considering the development needs of the country. To obtain the title, the successful completion of two semesters of compulsory study is required, as well as the writing of a graduate thesis.
The preparation of the thesis aims at the scientific deepening of graduate students in areas of particular scientific interest.
The specialization “Public International Law” aims to enrich students’ knowledge on issues related to the latest approaches and recent developments in international humanitarian law and human rights law. Students become familiar with the relevant legal terminology.
The specialization “Private International Law” aims to familiarize students with various issues related to European Private International Law, as well as the Law of Transactions and Arbitration. To successfully complete the program, students are invited to delve into various aspects of private international law.
