Description

The Master’s Program “Applied Informatics” is an innovative conversion course. It is aimed at graduates who do not come from the field of Information Technology, giving them the opportunity to change direction in relation to their undergraduate studies and focus on a crucial field, such as Information Technology and Digital Technology in general, in order to fill the rapidly growing number of jobs that require digital skills. The aim of the program is to promote knowledge, develop research, and train scientists for the needs of the labor market, on the one hand to meet the large and ever-increasing demand of the labor market for IT executives, and on the other hand to provide employment prospects for graduates of schools where unemployment is high, such as the Humanities and Philosophy Schools, but also Science Departments, such as Mathematics, Physics, etc. Similar programs have been quite popular for several years now in many countries in Europe (such as Great Britain, France, and the Netherlands) and the rest of the world (such as the United States).

In Greece, there are very few similar programs, while the constantly increasing number of applications for them confirms their importance. The program aims to bridge the gap between the skills possessed by graduates (of university departments other than Computer Science) and the needs of the labor market in terms of computer science knowledge and skills. It is designed so that it does not require prior knowledge in the field of IT, but also takes into account the students’ knowledge background. The course content is closely linked to cutting-edge technology issues and is periodically updated to take into account market needs.

Studies can be either full-time or part-time, lasting 12 or 24 months respectively. Upon completion of their studies, graduates will be specialized in the field of IT and digital technology in general, as they will:

  • acquire the necessary knowledge of information systems as well as telecommunications systems and network technologies.
  • ensure their scientific and professional development and career advancement and contribute creatively to development and/or research projects in the new digital era.
  • have the opportunity to prepare for postgraduate studies at doctoral level in subjects covered by the MSc program, as well as in interdisciplinary subjects related to the students’ undergraduate studies, providing them with the necessary tools to conduct original research. Graduates of the program are already working in high-demand positions, confirming its high quality and success.
