The National Library of Greece (NLG) and the Paleography Laboratory of the University of Crete are co-organizing a series of three academic lectures on the theme “Cretan Codex Scribes: Focusing on Michael Apostolis.”

Michael Apostolis, a scholar from Constantinople who settled in Venetian-ruled Chandax after the fall of Constantinople, developed multifaceted codicological and philological activities on the island and established a hub of philological and codicological tradition through educational initiatives and collaborations with scholars of the time.

The third lecture will be given on May 27, 2026, by Dr. Marie Cronier, Researcher at the Center for the Study of the History of Texts (Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes, Section Grecque, IRHT/CNRS) in Paris, titled “The Importance of Crete in the Tradition of Ancient Greek Texts during the Second Half of the 15th Century.”
