On the occasion of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, the Hellenic Maritime Museumpresents the exhibition “From Athens 1896… to Paris 2024. Olympic Memorabilia Coins & Medals“, which is under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister’s representative, Deputy Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Stefanos Gikas, on Wednesday 10 July 2024 at 20:30 at the Hellenic Maritime Museum.

The exhibition presents to the public for the first time 10 commemorative medals and 720 coins, which were circulated in the countries that organized the Winter and Summer Olympic Games from 1896 to the present day.

The private collection was created over the course of 50 years and is the only one in Greece with a complete series of coins of all denominations, from all over the world, which have as their theme the Olympic Games of the modern era.

Traditionally, the Olympic coins are collectible and constitute a means of raising revenue for the financing of the Games, depending on the practice of issuing stamps. However, with their elaborate, miniature representations, they also have artistic value, constituting a gallery of symbols of the global sporting and cultural heritage of the modern Olympic Games.
