On Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 7.30 pm, two leading historians, Thanos Veremis (University of Athens) and Cemal Kafandar (Harvard University), will meet and discuss the Greek Revolution, on the occasion of the publication of a new edition by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation titled “Those Infidel Greeks ”: The Greek War of Independence through Ottoman Archival Documents.

The two-volume publication, curated by the historian Dr. Şükrü Ilıcak (Institute of Mediterranean Studies), includes 700 documents, transcribed from the ottoman language, translated and fully annotated. These are letters found in the Ayniyat Registers, in the Ottoman Archives of Constantinople, dating from June 1821 to 1826, when the Great Powers began their official diplomatic intervention to the Greek Revolution. It is a project of international standards, undertaken for the first time by a Greek institution, a fact validated by the collaboration with Brill publishing house. The book is available online with free access to anyone interested, here.

The event is organized by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation in collaboration with the Center for Middle East Studies at Harvard University and will be held online via Zoom, in English.

The event will be attended by the curator of the publication, while the Vice President of the Foundation Mrs. Katerina Laskaridi will address a greeting.
