The book “Markos the Syrian” by Yorgos Thanopoulos and Dionysis Maniatis, recently released by Music Corner Publications, is an “encyclopedia book” about the life and songs of Mark Vamvakaris, in 78, 45 and 33 rpm vinyl. It also includes the songs that Vamvarkaris sang in the centers during the period of occupation, but never made it onto an album.

The contribution of his son, Stelios Vamvakaris, to the project of creating a complete discography of Markos Vamvakaris was catalytic: he contributed with original material from the family archive, both in his capacity as a musician who knows Markos’ work in depth, and -mainly- through information that his father himself had passed on to him.

The book also includes an innovation: by using QR Code technology, it becomes “interactive” and makes it possible to watch related videos of Markos Vamvakaris.
