There was a strong response from the business community in the electrical and electronic equipment sector, as well as from political and scientific circles, and from partners and friends to the call by Appliance Recycling S.A. for the presentation of the book In the Age of Electricity: Electrification, Electrical Goods, and Appliances in Greece, 19th–21st Centuries, and the documentary The History of Electrical Goods: From Use to Recycling. The event took place on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Faros Hall of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

The event was organized as part of Appliance Recycling S.A.’s 22-year commitment to environmental protection and the responsible management of waste electrical and electronic equipment. It was with this very point that the event’s host, journalist Niki Lyberaki, began her welcome remarks. After discussing the company’s structure and operations, a video was shown about Appliance Recycling S.A., highlighting its work on environmental protection, energy and natural resource conservation, and its contribution to the country’s economic development.

Georgios E. Dimitriou, President of Appliance Recycling S.A., highlighted the efforts that went into establishing the company in 2002 and the work it has been carrying out for the past 22 years. Regarding his vision, the historical study examining the emergence, marketing, and production of electrical goods in our country, and the documentary on the same subject, he noted: “We hope that this project will serve as a meaningful legacy for future generations, as well as a small tribute to the people in the industry who, with foresight, boldness, and a creative spirit, have made a decisive contribution to its development.”

Manolis Grafakos, General Secretary for Waste Management Coordination at the Ministry of Energy and the Environment, then delivered a welcome address.

Journalist Christos Vasilopoulos, speaking on behalf of “MICHANI TOU CHRONOU Productions,” discussed the historical documentary produced by his research team for Appliance Recycling S.A. Specifically, he noted: “From oil lamps to the digital age, the documentary highlights how electricity radically changed daily life in Greece. At the same time, it sheds light on the journey of appliances from use to recycling. A journey through history, technology, and responsibility for the future.” This was followed by the first official screening of the documentary titled: “The History of Electrical Appliances: From Use to Recycling.”
