The book examines the relationship between image, art, and knowledge from the Middle Ages to contemporary SciArt, approaching different forms of imagery—artistic, scientific, technical, and digital—as active ways of organizing, understanding, and giving meaning to the world. Through examples of medieval cartography, Renaissance anatomy, scientific visualization, data visualization, and technoscientific art, the book explores how images participate in the production of knowledge and its public negotiation. Combining art history, history of science, visual studies, and STS, the book proposes a historical and theoretical approach to the image as a field where aesthetic experience meets scientific practice.
