“Youth and youth clubs in post-war Greece:

Politics, culture, civilisations”

A protagonist of developments in the first post-war decades, the “youth” stamped the developments. Societies in the aftermath of the Great War are defined by young people; terms such as the “generation gap” shape the social climate; moral panic will leave its imprint on the cinema and press of the time. The emergence of youth, and especially its self-identification, beautifully summarizes many developments in the post-war world, from consumption in the age of prosperity to May ’68, and from the age of social democracy to particular youth cultures and the explosion of contestation.

Researchers, historians and experts who have dealt with youth, or more precisely youth in the post-war period, will present their thoughts and reflections in an attempt to map some of the interconnections between youth and politics, culture and civilizations in the second half of the twentieth century.

Introduction and Coordination και:

Kostas Katsapis (historian, Panteion University of Athens).

Speakers: Anna Maria Droumpaki (historian, University of Munich), Hilda Papadimitriou (author, translator), George Ikaros Babasakis (author, translator), Dimitris Maniatis (Journalist, author).
