What kind of landscapes do inmates contemplate when their gaze extends outside the iron fence? What occupations and land uses thrive where society executes the sentence of incarceration? How does the inside and the outside silently dialogue? How does a rigid boundary make sense of every path, opening of light or muddy road around it? And how much pressure is exerted bilaterally on such a boundary when the prison is located in a residential area? In this original international work, Yannis Pantelidis approaches the outer boundary of detention spaces.

Between 2016-2018, with special permission from the Ministry of Justice, he visited eighteen penitentiaries in all geographical regions of Greece, studying the zone between the prison and the surrounding atmosphere. His photographs highlight in relief the neutral zone, a grey zone, a zone that promises nothing and to no one. Bare earth, bars, cables, metal sheets, frozen earth and concrete.

The publication is bilingual (Greek – English)
