The Cretan Girl”, a comic opera by Spyros Samaras, a historic production by the Greek National Opera, is again performed at the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Kallas” on 18 December, for six shows, in the framework of “Christmas in Athens” by the Municipality of Athens, 105 years after its first presentation in the Municipal Theatre of Athens in 1916. The plot unfolds in Crete under Venetian rule (1211-1715). Areti, a beautiful Cretan girl, disguises herself as Manolios to convince the Venetian Duke of Crete to grant rights to her people.
