The Vice Mayoralty of Culture and Sciences of the Municipality of Larissa presents on Monday 4 April at 20:30 the solo painting exhibition of Konstantinos Papargyris entitled “Painting. Recitative for nature and indulgence” at the Arts Hall “Takis Tloupas” of the Hatzigiannio Cultural Centre of Larissa (2nd floor, Roosevelt 59).

The exhibition, which will then travel to Athens and Paris, presents the works of the last few years (2019-2022) of Konstantinos Papargyris, through which he urges us to reinterpret nature, inviting us to a dialogue in search of the modern relationship between man and his natural environment.

Nature now has the primary role in Konstantinos Papargyris’s painting, for him it is “the roommate on the same planet”. His pictorial interest in man shifts, the nature that surrounds him is now his pictorial object, but man is everywhere, in the trees, in the fruits, in the skies, in the rivers he paints. Through his new work, based on colour and light, a “painting of the gaze”, he tries to redefine his relationship with “his beloved man and rediscover his lost magic”.

As the curator of the exhibition, Valentini Margaritopoulou, notes, “Papargyris, having as his starting point an authentic inner spiritual compass that dictates his love for man and life, paints everything that surrounds him, the primordial, the eternal, the timeless, the source of life and beauty: nature. He reveals the insignificant, the indifferent, he praises nature, his painting is magical, the subject is for him a simple stimulus. His organized composition, rich color and high technique transform the simplest subject into a memorable one. The poetic nature of his art enchants us and pushes us into a more intimate dialogue with his work and with ourselves. His works stimulate our eyes pictorially, colorfully and conceptually. With the oils, “Pine River”, “Landscapes”, “Trees” he creates his own personal narrative by following the colors, shapes, hues, tones, forms and frequency of light. He does not create images, they create him, he does not impose his vision on the canvas, he lets his works be born out of necessity, they are liberated by him and he is liberated by them, thus revealing his identity. An identity that is courageous, with an appetite to sing and ‘to see the glass both half full and colourful and hopeful’.”

Konstantinos Papargyris was born in Larissa in 1976. He took his first drawing lessons next to the sculptor Christos Makropoulos. He studied Painting at the Florence School of Fine Arts (1997-2001), two years after the residency at the School of Fine Arts in Lecce (South Italy). She attended seminars in set design at the workshop of Maria Chaniotaki. She is engaged in the writing of plays and murals in public spaces. She has held 17 solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad and has taken part in a series of group exhibitions. His works are in the State Museum of Contemporary Art (MOMus – Museum of Modern Art – Kostakis Collection) in Thessaloniki and in private collections.

In the context of the exhibition, there will be open tours for the public which will be announced.
