In the context of the promotion of the important work of foreign artists residing in Hydra, the Historical Archive-Museum of Hydra has the special pleasure of starting this year’s cultural events, hosting from April 1st to April 30th, an excellent creator, Angelika Lialios Freitag, who has shown excellent examples of “writing” through her artistic work.

Angelika Lialios is a contemporary artist known for her watercolors of Greek landscapes, mainly landscapes of Hydra, and for her paintings of flowers and scenes in English gardens.

Born in Germany, she studied graphic design at the Werkkunstschule in Wiesbaden and moved permanently to Greece when she married her Greek husband George Lialios, with whom she had two wonderful daughters. Together they traveled to India, where Moghul miniatures, with their bright colors and attention to detail, further inspired her work.

Angelika first visited the island of Hydra in the early 70s and soon became a member of the artist community that included outstanding artists such as Brice Marden, William Pownell, Marios Loizides, and Marcella Maltais.  On Hydra, Angelika and her husband lived in the mansion of Oikonomou, one of the great Hydra sailors. In the 1970s, Angelika had her first solo exhibition at the Indigo Gallery of Hydra,
In the 90s and early 2000s, Angelika and her family spent more time in Athens. From 2009 to 2017 they lived in England.  Eventually they returned to Greece and Hydra, where we again have the pleasure of seeing her often.  Her artistic inspiration skyrocketed, giving the art-loving public the unique pleasure of her works in acrylic that stem from the artist’s experiential relationship with nature and the abundant memories she carries within her.
The adventure of light and reflections interwoven with the transparency of colors and shapes, concrete or abstract, lead Angelika’s magical pigment and give a uniqueness to her artistic creations while at the same time developing an excellent and lasting visual dialogue in her works. The latest of these reflect the romance and abundance of magnificent English gardens.

Angelika Lialios ‘interests include , in addition to painting, sculpture, and photography, the process of creating artists’ books. She likes to constantly research different styles of every kind of art and technique. To this end, he experiments every time with a variety of materials and techniques.
The works of Angelika Lialios are in private collections around the world.  The exhibition of her work, entitled “Reflections of Change,” that we are hosting at this time in the Historical Archive-Museum of Hydra, will undoubtedly give us the opportunity to enjoy her extremely creative and constantly changing artistic course.

Exhibition opening: Friday, April 7, 2023, at 8 a.m.
Hours of audience visits: daily, 9 p.m.–4 a.m.
