With consistency and continuity in its cultural activities, the Public Benefit Foundation Leonidas K. Makris – doctor, inaugurates on Saturday, December 2, at 19:30 in the building of the Art & Culture House of the Foundation, the exhibition “PAINTING COMPILATION, From Gyzis to the present day”.

On Sunday, December 3, at 11:30, a guided tour will be given by the curator of the exhibition, Manos Stefanidis, Art Historian and Professor Emeritus of the University of Athens.

The exhibition is a panorama of Greek painting, with works from private collections, featuring historical artists such as Nikolaos Gyzis, Pericles Pantazis, Konstantinos Parthenis, Theodoros Rallis, Konstantinos Volanakis, Ioannis Altamouras and Emilios Prosalentis, Dimitrios Yoldasis, Giorgos Goulas, Spyros Vassiliou, Giannis Moralis, Diamantis Diamantopoulos, Mayo, Valerios Kaloutsis, Giorgos Golfinos and Makis Theofylaktopoulos, who have been prominent in the Greek art scene from the 19th century until today.

At the same time, contemporary artists are presented who claim their own place in history: Theodoros Pantaleon, Christos Antonaropoulos, Kostas Papanikolaou, Thanasis Makris, Pantelis Psaras, Nikolas Klironomos, Kalli Kastori, Stathis Vatanidis, Kostas Dios and Nektarios Kontovrakis, “illustrate” the present, the joy of love and the mourning of death. The joy of expression born from the inability to express ourselves, trapped in a one-dimensional education and a technocratic way of life. By forming an aesthetic-ideological unity in principle, they defend individual idiosyncrasies or dreams and at the same time express more general needs or desires. They describe through symbols, associations or visual contexts the face of a Greece that, however much it changes, under certain circumstances, remains excruciatingly the same, as the curator of the exhibition, Manos Stefanidis, says and notes. ”Perhaps our last chance for self-knowledge. As long as we are willing to see…”.
