I paint whatever moves me, whatever I feel about life—it’s as simple as that. Golden horsemen who now live only in our dreams, languid women, or couples in love… I love the light that caresses faces. What poetry in a body bathed in it! I love colors, naked bodies, fabrics, the red room, the story of a fugitive, the small, insignificant events….”
Alekos Fassianos’s poetic gaze unfolds through forms, colors, and moments that draw inspiration from everyday life and memory. The public will have the opportunity to experience this unique visual world at the exhibition Alekos Fassianos: Under the Summer Sun, presented at the National Gallery’s Annex in Corfu.
The exhibition brings together 46 works by the artist—oil paintings, acrylics, and prints—offering a representative overview of his creative career. The works come from the collection of the National Gallery, the Alekos Fassianos Museum, and private collections, spanning nearly six decades of artistic production. Through these works, the artist’s consistency and evolutionary trajectory are highlighted, as well as his unique ability to transform the “small, insignificant” events of life into images full of life and intensity. The exhibition offers a valuable opportunity for the public to engage with the work of one of the most significant contemporary Greek artists and to experience his unique visual language firsthand.
