Margarita Petrova’s art exhibition “Second Skin” explores constructed gender stereotypes and the way in which they are imprinted on people, shaping their image, consciousness, and, ultimately, their very identity. “Second Skin” serves as a powerful metaphor for the ideological and social layers that define norms and behaviors. A metaphor for all that is imposed upon us and/or that we unconsciously adopt—for the social expectations, roles, and labels that are attached to us from childhood. The exhibition weaves a visual narrative about the stereotypical social shell that often becomes so familiar that it seems inseparable from our very existence.

In an era where image, social acceptance, and predetermined identities continue to define how we perceive ourselves and others, the exhibition explores how socially imposed norms become inscribed on the body and turn into second nature. “Second Skin” invites us to cast aside stereotypical notions and reclaim our personal freedom and authentic selves, free from social prejudices.

The exhibition features installations and videos from recent years, as well as works created specifically for this exhibition, reflecting the artist’s long-standing exploration of the issue of social stereotypes and the role of women.

As part of the exhibition, the artist will present the performance “The Tomb Within Me.”
