A curse. An omen. A man-eating monster. A strange fairy-tale adventure or
a workshop of philosophical ideas? Can the hunt for a whale encapsulate within itself
all the intricate workings of the human mind and man’s need to
to fight his own limits? His own god?
Two years after the first staging – halted due to health regulations –
Moby Dick – the musical” by Dimitris Papadimitriou is back on stage . Literature, music, theatre, dance, wonderful sets and the most advanced “Holograms” technology make its stage representation possible in an exciting stage direction signed by Yannis Kakleas. Based on the fifth most widely read book in the history of mankind, this masterpiece of world literature has been transformed by Onassis Culture into a unique musical spectacle and from 15 February, the biggest Greek musical extravaganza sails from the stage of the Christmas Theater.
The period of the mandatory break gave the cast the opportunity to prepare even more for the performance, while its transfer to the Christmas Theater allowed for even more technical facilities and the staging of a performance worthy of Mobby Dick’s stature thanks to the support of the House of Arts and Letters of the Onassis Foundation.

The musical (adaptation-libretto and musical composition) by Dimitris Papadimitriou, directed by Yannis Kakleas, is a “whale-like” project. A libretto of 29,198 words and 900,00 musical notes in its score, 23 performers on stage and 12 musicians live, 430 hours of rehearsals and 250 hours of musical instruction. Another 135 costumes, countless scene changes, 70 square meters of holographic projection screen, 96 square meters of LED screen and impressive hologram projections and 3D videos are coming together to excite and give a unforgettable experience for the audience, in harmony with Herman Melville’s global masterpiece .
