NEON collaborates with the National Hellenic Research Foundation and presents the exhibition Before and after science, a new commission to the artist Iris Touliatou, from 27 May to 7 July 2024, curated by Galini Notti.

Once again, NEON activates a public space and, through contemporary art, offers free access to the general public. The exhibition is part of the NEON City Project 2024 programme, in the framework of which NEON commissions an artist to create a work that is exhibited in a public space for a specific period of time.

The exhibition Before and after science by Iris Touliatou is displayed in the premises of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, in the outdoor area, in the reception area and in the “K.Th. Dimaras” Science, Technology and Culture Library. As emphasized by the Director and President of the Foundation, Professor Demosthenes A. Sarigiannis: “The choice of the “K. Th. Dimaras Library and the other spaces of the HFC for the creation and presentation of the exhibition of Iris Touliatou underlines the relationship that is formed by the contact between “the common” and science, creating a liaison space for the expression and understanding of this interaction through contemporary art.”

The title, borrowed from musician Brian Eno’s album of the same name, functions as a timeline and captures the live -in vivo and laboratory -in vitro- process of composing the works through analysis, deconstruction and reconstruction, synchronizing functional, environmental and social conditions.

The visitor is invited to tour the National Hellenic Research Foundation’s premises, discovering the works in the garden, the library, the atriums and the reception areas of the building that are in dialogue with the works. After all, the space itself, its architecture, history and function have been an inspiration and have been exploited by Iris Touliatou.
