The full program of events planned by the Municipality of Patras and the Cultural Organization was presented at a press conference by the Mayor of Patras Kostas Peletidis, the President of the Cultural Organization Katerina Geropanagiotou and the President of the DI.PE.THE of Patras Petros Vais.
Events will begin on June 21, on the occasion of the European Music Day, with performances by three musical ensembles of the Organization.
The International Festival of Patras starts begins on Thursday 24 and continues on Friday 25 June with the theatrical performance “Freedom, the hymn of the Greeks” by Arma Thespisos of the DI.PE.THE. at the Roman Conservatory.
On July 5, the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra presents Theofrastos Sakellaridis’ Operetta “The Godson” (“O Vaftistikos”) and the “Seven Odes” from the Hymn to Freedom by Nikolaos Mantzaros, at Rio Castle.
Patras will also be one of the 51 cities which have joined the “Festival of Cities” and in collaboration with the committee “Greece 2021”, organizes a celebration for all citizens with the participation of choirs, music and theater groups. “Meeting of Dance Bands” from July 22 to 24 in the South Park and “Meeting of Vocal Music Bands” in Ypsila Alonia on July 24 and 25. Admission to all the events mentioned above is free.
In addition to the events of the International Festival, the president of the Cultural Organization also mentioned:
The Outdoor Art Exhibitions in squares and other open spaces. Current planning involves, when conditions permit, the implementation of Historical – Artistic Walks which have already been designed and organized.
The preparation of an Exhibition at the Municipal Gallery on: “Achaia in the Revolution of 1821” – “A narration through the records of the Municipal Library of Patras”, from September 6 to December 31, 2021, as well as Meetings on various aspects of life during the revolution. The Meeting on Greek Folk Song and ‘Kleftika’, where the book by Panagiotis Salamalikis “The Folk Song in Achaia” will be presented. The artistic events of 2021 will come to a close with the opera “Markos Botsaris” by Pavlos Carrer, on December 15 and 17 at the conference center of the University.
