The Thessaloniki State Conservatory presents the comic one-act opera Il segreto di Susanna by the Italian-German composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Royal Theater of Thessaloniki, with two performances at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The opera is directed by Akis Lalousis and performed by students of the TSC Department of Musical Drama, with the TSC Symphony Orchestra under the musical direction of Vladimiros Symeonidis, in a co-production with the Thessaloniki State Symphony .

This is a comedy full of mystery, jealousy, and… smoke—a play in which a small secret sparks a major upheaval, and jealousy, suspicion, love, and humor come together in a fast-paced stage story with unexpected twists. There are secrets that can shake up a marriage, but there are also secrets that, when revealed, treat the audience to a delightful comedy.

Susanna’s Secret is one of the signature comic operas by the Italian-German composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, a composer who combined the lyrical tradition with the theatricality and expressiveness of Italian opera.

The opera, with a libretto by Enrico Golisciani, portrays with subtle humor and theatrical vitality the relationship between a young couple, Count Gil and Susanna. A mysterious “secret” involving Susanna sparks jealousy, misunderstandings, and a series of comical situations.

Through Wolf-Ferrari’s inventive musical composition and the fast-paced plot, the work paints a lighthearted yet human portrait of a marital relationship, in which suspicion can easily turn a trivial detail into… a huge scandal.
