The center of Excellence for research and innovation “Koios” of the University of Cyprus accepts applications for five (5) scholarships for full-time doctoral students.

The students who will be selected will be enrolled either in the Electrical Engineering Program or in the Computer Engineering program of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (HMI) of the University of Cyprus. The HMI department conducts cutting-edge research at an international level, offering comprehensive curricula covering a wide range of knowledge and scientific fields. According to the latest edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities Ranking List, known as the Shanghai list, the HMI Department ranks among the 201-300 best worldwide.

The students who will be selected will conduct research in the state-of-the-art facilities of “Koios” in one of the following areas: Automatic control systems, computational intelligence and machine learning, autonomous systems, optimization, networks, embedded and real-time systems hardware and software, fault diagnosis diagnosis), cybersecurity, reliability, resilience and fault tolerance (cyber-security, reliability, resilience and fault tolerance), dependable integrated systems, Cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things, intelligent transport systems, intelligent water networks, electricity systems, telecommunications networks and edge computing. Candidates with excellent mathematical background and / or experience in algorithm and software development are encouraged to apply.

 

Candidate profiles

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to conduct basic and Applied Research in the areas of Information and Communication Technologies, with a particular focus on System Monitoring, Control and security in critical infrastructures. You will be encouraged to produce and publish research results in international conferences and journals, with the aim of obtaining the PhD degree. It is also expected that they will contribute to various research programs at the center of Excellence “Koios” in order to implement its strategic goals.

Necessary qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and / or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) or computer science or mathematics or in a similar field, from a recognized Higher Educational Institution.
  • Previous research experience will be considered as an additional qualification.
  • Very good knowledge of English. Presentation of one of the following:
  • GCSE: at least C-grade,
  • IELTS Academic: a minimum total score of 6.5
  • Test of English as a foreign language (ETS TOEFL®): a minimum score of 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based) or 80 (internet-based)

Terms of scholarship

The scholarship will be for one year, renewable annually based on the progress and performance of the student, until the completion of the studies, for a period of 3-5 years. It includes the tuition fees as well as an initial gross monthly salary of €1.250. From the gross earnings will be cut off the contributions of the employee to the state funds. The 13th salary is built into the monthly salary. Maternity leave will be granted under the Maternity Protection Act of 1997 (N.100 (I) / 1997), as well as the existing amending laws.
