This is the first historical study of this secret revolutionary organization. The author, Ioannis Philemon (1798 / 1799-1874), secretary of Dimitrios Ypsilantis, an active participant in the Revolution of 1821 and publisher of the newspaper Time (‘Chronos) in 1833, attempts –after a brief overview of the history of Hellenism after the Fall of Constantinople-, to reconstruct the history of the Society of Friends, giving an overview of its organizational structure, operation and activities, from its foundation in 1814 until the eve of the Struggle.
