The two-day tribute of the International Festival to the two rebetiko performers of Patras, Babis Goles and Costas Tsiatas, will end at 9.30 pm on Saturday 20 July at the Old Slaughterhouses with the concert for Babis Goles.
The tribute features a six-member musical ensemble consisting of George Grisiotis – three-string bouzouki, vocals, Spyros Delengos – guitar, vocals, Andreas Stamatopoulos – accordion, vocals, Dimitris Sarris – baglama, vocals, Adriana Tsagaris – vocals, Senih Undeyer – violin.
Babis Goles, born in Tabachana, Patras, is one of the most recognizable musical personalities of the revival of rebetiko singing during the post-communist period. With a plethora of performances since the mid-1960s and a series of albums from 1982 onwards, Gholes marked a new era for rebetiko, nurturing generations of musicians of the genre and attracting the general public to the musical world of the gramophone.
The event is coordinated by Spyros Delengos and Giorgos Grisiotis.
