The Ministry of Culture is once again organizing the “Green Cultural Routes” outreach initiative this year, from May 21 to 24, featuring a wide range of events for the general public and schoolchildren throughout the country.
Admission to the events is free for participants. The aim of the initiative, which is linked to World Environment Day and celebrated on June 5 each year, is to promote sustainable development by educating citizens on issues related to the protection and promotion of the country’s cultural heritage and natural environment. The initiative was first implemented in 2012 in three Regional Units and has since continued to expand, with organizations from 35 Regional Units participating in 2025.
The “Green Cultural Routes” were designed by the Ministry of Culture—through the Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions, and Educational Programs—as part of the Ministry’s participation in the National Action Plan for Education for Sustainable Development and are coordinated by the relevant Department of Educational Programs and Communication. From Thursday, May 21, through Sunday, May 24, the Ministry of Culture invites the public to learn and be entertained by participating in informational presentations, educational programs, themed tours, guided tours, walks, hikes, bike routes, community planting projects, artistic events, and more, while promotional materials will provide information on the campaign’s objectives and content.
This year’s celebration involves 46 Regional and Special Regional Services of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage from 43 Regional Units across the country and five public museums, in collaboration with numerous municipalities, Primary and Secondary Education Directorates of the Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs, as well as many private museums, Holy Metropolises, Environmental Education Centers, university departments, schools, cultural associations, environmental organizations, citizen associations and cooperatives, as well as many volunteers.
Please note that you must register with the relevant organizing agencies.
