Six out of eleven prizes were awarded to the films of the female students of the Film Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at the 47th International Short Film Festival of Drama.

Specifically, four short films recently produced by the Film Department participated in the National Student Competition, where they won six out of eleven awards, including the Best Film and Best Director awards.

In particular, the grand prize for Greek Student Film “Frida Liappa” was awarded to the film “Pop” by student Lina Kountoura, as well as the award for Set Design (scenery: Katerina Perdikouri-Papadopoulou, Panos Sellas, Stella Deliantoni). The jury praised the “unexpectedly fresh directorial perspective” of a film, much of which was shot in the studio of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, using playfully cardboard sets and the old technique of back projection. The film takes us into the real and imaginary world of three young women of Generation Z, who, finding the going tough, decide to pull off a daring heist.

The Director’s Award was awarded to the film “aparatateme” by student Meni Tsilianidou, as well as the awards for Male and Female Performance to the two protagonists of the film, Dimitris Naziris, actor – professor emeritus of the Department of Theatre of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and his former student Iro Tsamoglou. The film is a comic road movie in which the young lesbian heroine confronts her judgmental elderly grandfather on a thrilling car ride through the countryside.

A Special Mention was awarded to the film ” Acheron” by the student Konstantina Papadopoulou. The film follows a married couple who, trying to rebuild their damaged relationship, take a short idyllic holiday in Epirus. But while sailing up the Acheron River, they are forced to confront their past. A touching and sensitive character exploration with remarkable performances (Argyris Bakirtzis is unforgettable in the role of the boatman-captain of the tourist ship).
