As part of the celebration of European Conservation Day, the Department of Conservation of Antiquities, Works of Art, and Archaeometry at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum is organizing a hands-on workshop on the theme:
“Sculptures, Pottery, Gold: BEFORE and AFTER,” on October 15 and 16, 2026.
The workshop aims to introduce young people (middle and high school students) to the conservation of antiquities.
The workshop includes:
a. An introduction to the science of conservation, featuring informational materials and demonstrations of how instruments and tools work. This is followed by a hands-on activity in which students assess the state of preservation of selected ancient artifacts.
b. An educational program in which students are invited to take on the role of an antiquities conservator and discover the beauty of reconstructing a replica of a ceramic object.
