The Museum of Education belongs to the Department of Education and Social Work of the University of Patras and was founded by Emeritus Professor Iosif Bouzakis. The director of the Museum is Professor Anna Fterniati.
The Museum exhibits historical educational items collected from schools of the region and from other areas of Greece, from the 19th century until the present day. Guided tours last about 40 minutes, while students are divided into groups of 60 per visit and participate in a detailed tour and a historical review of all the thematic sections that make up the school of the past, such as:
Virtual School Classroom, Greek School Books and Textbooks of other countries, Teaching Aids and Educational Materials, School Environment Objects, Educational Bills, Decrees, Laws, Forms, Educational – Pedagogical Magazines, Photographic material from school events, etc.
Accompanying the guided tours, 5 educational programs are also implemented:
- The Toys in Ancient Greece
- The Myth of Prometheus
- The Antikythera Mechanism
- The Olive
- The Museum of Myths.
Since the museum reopened in 2015, attendance has exceeded 30 thousand students.
