The award ceremony of the Excellence Awards is the final stage of months of work from the University’s Committee on Excellence, which aims to highlight the outstanding actions in the fields of research and innovation, as well as to promote good practices and excellent performance.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki gave the Excellence Awards to the members of its university community who excelled in various fields in the last year.
In his greeting, the Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor Nikolaos G. Papaioannou, stated that “the concept of Excellence is an end in itself for us, which makes it possible for the people of our University to emerge through their work.”
In his presentation on “The Excellence Awards 2021 of AUTh”, the Chairman of the Committee of Excellence of AUTh, Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering Markos I. Assael, noted that “we give Excellence Awards to those who show exceptional performance in Science, Education, Art, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Volunteering. Today we award those who with their hard work and special skills enhance the extroversion of the University in a completely new unprecedented global environment “.
The winners for 2021 are the following:
- Gianna Angelopoulou-Daskalaki, President of the “Greece 2021” Committee, the Alumni Award for her outstanding contribution to the promotion of Greece and its cultural heritage
- Angeliki Lemonidou, Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering for the recognition of her scientific work in the Natural Sciences
- Asterios Karagiannis, Emeritus Professor of the Department of Medicine for the recognition of his scientific work in Health Sciences
- Andreas Zafeiridis, Professor of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science of Serres for the recognition of his scientific work in Physical Education Sciences
- Konstantinos Varotsos, Professor of the Department of Architectural Engineering for his international artistic presence
- Nikolaos Pleros, Associate Professor of the Department of Informatics for innovation and research utilization
- Panagiotis Bamidis, Professor of the Department of Medicine for attracting research programs
- International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences Greece for student activities at an international level
- Society of Economic Geologists AUTh for voluntary actions that promote initiatives aimed at improving knowledge and helping others
- BEST Thessaloniki for voluntary actions that promote initiatives aimed at improving knowledge and helping others
- Department of European Educational Programs for the contribution to the academic operation of AUTh
- Department of International Relations for the contribution to the academic operation of AUTh
- Wastewater Epidemiology Team for its contribution in combating the COVID-19 pandemic
