The Suppliants of Euripides is a masterpiece of the ancient classical literature. Beginning from the issue regarding the burial of the dead Argeian generals after the defeat of the Seven against Thebes, the poet created a deeply political work that deals with fundamental issues concerning the functioning of a democratic state. Through the confrontations between the characters, we can attend to the development and elaboration of ideological positions and arguments relating to the citizen’s relationship with the state, the role of women in the political body, the role of young people in a democracy, the concept of heroism, war, political psychology, etc.
