The Department of Plant Production and Agricultural Environment at the University of Thessaly invites interested parties to submit an expression of interest in enrolling in the Master’s Program in “Mediterranean Crop Production Systems” for the 2026–27 academic year, in the following specializations:

  • Sustainable Agriculture and Plant Breeding
  • Cutting-Edge Fields in Fruit and Vegetable Production

All specializations within the program lead to the award of a Master of Science (MSc) degree (Master of Science—MSc) in “Mediterranean Crop Production Systems.” and are designed for those who wish to strengthen their position in the job market, expand their knowledge, or prepare for doctoral-level studies.

The Program in “Mediterranean Crop Production Systems” has been accredited by the Evaluation and Accreditation Council of the National Authority for Higher Education (ETHAAE).

The M.Sc. program “Mediterranean Crop Production Systems” provides theoretical and practical knowledge to address the most significant problems affecting crops due to climate change. Particular emphasis is placed on high-value-added crops, as well as on the integration of innovative technologies into the production process that promote sustainable development. Completion of the M.Sc. program is expected to contribute to the development of domestic expertise, with a focus on the specific challenges of managing open-field and protected-field crops in the Mediterranean climate. Furthermore, graduates of the program gain expertise in modern production systems through collaborations with businesses.

The duration of the MSc program is two (2) semesters. The program accepts graduates from the Departments of Agricultural, Geotechnical, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Natural Sciences from Greek universities (AEI) and Technological Educational Institutes (ATEI) or from recognized equivalent institutions abroad. The maximum number of students admitted to the program is set at 30 in total. Students who are currently pursuing their bachelor’s degree may also apply and be admitted, provided they have earned their bachelor’s degree before the start of classes in October.

Courses will be conducted 50% remotely, using modern distance learning methods, and 50% in person from Friday afternoon through Sunday.

By the deadline for the selection and ranking of candidates on the lists—which will be determined at a later stage—interested parties must submit and email the following supporting documents to the email address of the Secretariat of the Master’s Program “Mediterranean Crop Production Systems” ([email protected]):

1. A copy of all academic degrees (bachelor’s degree/diploma, other master’s degree, etc.), or a Certificate of Completion of Studies.
2. A copy of the detailed transcript for all years of undergraduate studies as well as any graduate studies
3. Proof of English language proficiency, documented by a relevant certificate equivalent to at least the State Certificate of Language Proficiency Level B2 or another certificate attesting to a good command of the language. Holders of a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a foreign university taught in English are exempt from this requirement.
4. At least two (2) letters of recommendation. The letters must be from faculty members of the candidate’s educational institution or from faculty members of other educational institutions who are familiar with the candidate’s academic background. In the case of candidates with significant professional experience, candidates may also submit letters from individuals in their professional field.
5. Any other information that, in the candidates’ opinion, would contribute to a more comprehensive evaluation of their qualifications, such as certificates of participation in summer schools and/or conferences and/or student exchange programs, scholarships from the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) or other recognized institutions, awards from competitions, presentations of research papers at academic conferences, proof of participation in research projects, academic publications, certificates of professional experience, etc.

To enroll in the Master’s program, students are required to pay tuition fees totaling 2,500 euros, which will be paid in installments. Students who meet the criteria of Article 86 of Law 4957/2022 are exempt; this exemption applies to up to 30% of the total number of students admitted to the Master’s program. If the number of eligible students exceeds this percentage, they will be selected in order of ranking, starting with those with the lowest income.
