After Platforms Project Net 2021, the online version of the exhibition that took place from 27 May to 10 June 2021, the physical exhibition of Platforms Project 2020-21 – Independent Art Fair returns and will be presented from 21 to 24 October 2021 at the “Nikos Kessanlis” exhibition space of School of Fine Arts (Piraeus 256, 182 35, Agios Ioannis Rentis), with 54 platforms from 24 countries, and with more than 800 artists and a rich and multifaceted program of speeches, videos and performances. Now in its ninth consecutive year, Platforms Project is the international show that indicatively charts the art currently produced through collective initiatives by young artists on the international scene as they join forces to seek answers to contemporary artistic questions. The project is managed by Artemis Potamianou and Michalis Argyrou. The Artistic Director of Platforms Project 2021 is Artemis Potamianou.
The Platforms Project Net 2021 will enable a wider audience of art lovers to access the works and the artists of the groups through a digital show, and viewers can live a new experience by visiting the Platforms Project site for 15 days, from May 27th to June 10th, 2021.
A virtual plan view of the ‘Nikos Kessanlis” exhibition space of the Athens School of Fine Arts shows the platforms installed in their digital stands. Viewers can click on a platform’s number and title and see the works presented by each artist in the group (video-art, painting, photography, installations, etc). Visitors to the new Platforms Project NET may engage in direct, real-time dialogue with the artists over the internet as part of the overall interactive experience.
The Platforms Project NET will be featuring 68 platforms from 28 countries (Greece, UK, Germany, Canada, USA, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, France, Panama, Finland, Indonesia, Turkey, Serbia, Russia, Cyprus, Italy, Hong Kong, Australia, China, Ukraine, Chile, Slovenia, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela) and over 900 artists.This year, the Platforms Project Net hosts more platforms and artists than ever before, and if the pandemic conditions and the safety of artists and visitors allow it, the physical presentation of Platforms Project 2020-21 will be held from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 October 2021 at the “Nikos Kessanlis” exhibition hall of the Athens School of Fine Arts.
Platforms Project aims to serve as a hub of creation, a register of the avant-garde trends in art and a forum for promoting interaction among platforms. Over its ninth years of operation, it has established a world network of independent art groups and spaces in direct communication with one another. As proof of this, several platforms have invited other groups/platforms and integrated them into their presentation. In this way, the program of Platforms Project ΝΕΤ 2021 ultimately includes 91 artists’ groups-platforms. Some notable examples of this are the En Flo platform from Greece which has invited the groups-platforms of Poetry Well, Poetry Perfo U.W.M., Surrealistic Team of Thessaloniki, Echoes in the well (collective poem), Karyothrafstis literary journal poets group, Women’s thirty ways of entrapment (poetry in two acts), SIATERLI & CO, Brothers Group, COM.ODD.OR., Buffalo Fire Women Project–The Howl, Poetry Well ΙΙ, Coo Action Playback Theater, Ephemeral sculptures, hanging in balance, Poetry Well ΙΙΙ, Pictorial synergy recitation of haikou and works of art, TRIBUTE TO KASOMOULIS, Deterritorialized, Sonorous Wishing Well -Florina Conservatory, Attempt Number One, Walter Benjamin, The philosophy of art history, XA-OIKOY, Fragments of truth who has joined forces with LaLa Art Group and the Dutch platform EX-MÊKH which features also works by the German platforms KRAATZ and A Trans.
A key parallel program in the context of the Platforms Project NET is OPEN STUDIOS, where teaching studios of the Athens School of Fine Arts present the students’ actions and works. For Platforms Project ΝΕΤ 2021, the participants are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th Painting Studios, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Sculpture Studios, the Elective Studios 3d modelling and printing studio, the Videoart Studio and the Master in Fine Arts (MFA) of the ASFA.
This year’s KIDS LAB educational program is designed for 4-16-year-olds. Developed by the Dutch platform EX-MÊKH and the artist and art educator Ellen Rodenberg, the program invites children to set up their own mini space ( a small stand/cube) with paper, pencils and colors during the Platforms Project NET, for which they can draw inspiration from the exhibition.
In addition, the program designed by the Greek platform Lab for Arts aims to introduce children to the visual arts and help them find inspiration in the works of major artists.
Viewers will also be able to watch online, in Greek, English, French and German, a rich and varied program of lectures on matters of contemporary art, online performances and videos by the participating platforms.
