An innovative network of public schools with a strong social focus
The Onassis Public Schools are an innovative network of public schools with a strong social focus. These are existing public secondary schools that are being upgraded with funding from the Onassis Foundation and operate under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports.
The initiative aims to expand students’ access to modern and upgraded educational environments, particularly in areas facing significant social and economic challenges, helping to shape a public school system that meets the needs of the future.
A new learning community, with its sights set on the future
The first twelve Onassis Public Schools (6 junior high schools and 6 senior high schools) began operations in September 2025 in Acharnes, Peristeri, Kolonos, Xirokrini in Thessaloniki, Kozani, and Xanthi, and have already become dynamic hubs of knowledge, creativity, and outreach for their local communities.
Starting in September 2026, the network will expand to include eight new schools—four junior high schools and four senior high schools—in Aigaleo, Rhodes, Heraklion, and Pyrgos.
Together, the 20 schools in the network of Public Onassis Schools will welcome the students selected through this year’s admissions process, forming a new learning community with an eye toward the future.
