The exhibition “Sector2: Nicosia” travels to Athens as part of the Cultural Program of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
The exhibition, which will be on display from March 11 to May 24, 2026, at the Tobacco Factory of the Hellenic Parliament, under the auspices of the Hellenic Parliament, offers a contemporary and experiential approach to the history of the Green Line. Through historical evidence, archival material, everyday objects, works of art, and oral testimonies, it composes a multi-layered narrative that begins in the 1950s and 1960s and ends with the Turkish invasion of 1974 and subsequent attempts at rapprochement.
The museum tour, enriched with scenographic and artistic elements, creates an experience that allows visitors to approach history not only as knowledge and information, but mainly as a personal and experiential journey.
The presentation of the exhibition in the Greek capital marks a significant opening of Nicosia’s historical experience to the Greek, European, and international public, strengthening the intercultural dialogue around memory, coexistence, and separation.
Nicosia, as the last divided capital in Europe, conveys through the exhibition a testimony that transcends its geographical boundaries and touches on broader issues of identity as well as the collective trauma of the city and its historical consciousness.
With its presentation in Athens, “Sector 2: Nicosia” seeks to open a public space for reflection and exchange of ideas, highlighting the importance of memory as a tool for understanding the present and shaping a more conscious future.
